This compelling feature documentary unveils the remarkable story of wolf reintroduction to Yellowstone National Park through restored 16mm footage that was thought to have been lost for decades. The film chronicles the parallel journeys of two pioneers: Mollie Beattie, the first female director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Wolf #5, the alpha female who would inspire the name of one of Yellowstone's most significant wolf packs.
The narrative begins on January 12, 1995, when Beattie carried the first Canadian-born wolf into Yellowstone's experimental acclimation enclosure, marking the species' return after a 50-year absence. Through archival footage and in-depth interviews with key participants, the film documents this historic conservation milestone and its lasting impact on America's first national park.
